Our Call to Duty – Keeping Promises

Our Call to Duty – Keeping Promises. By now, many have struggled to stay consistent with their New Year’s resolution.  Doing something different this year is commendable, but why do we have such a strong resistance to keeping promises, even to ourselves?  Jesus is not like us (humankind) in that he is the same yesterday, today, and forever: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Heb 13:8 (NLT).  He represents GOD, promising something, and keeping it.

Jesus, the promise that GOD gave the serpent for deceiving Eve in the garden, causing Adam to eat from the forbidden tree in the middle of the garden: “And I will put enmity (open hostility) Between you and the woman, And between your seed (offspring) and her Seed; He shall [fatally] bruise your head, And you shall [only] bruise His heel.” Gen 3:15 (AMP).  GOD had to keep His promise that when Adam ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, he would die: “but [only] from the tree of the knowledge (recognition) of good and evil you shall not eat, otherwise on the day that you eat from it, you shall most certainly die [because of your disobedience].” Gen 2:17 (AMP)

Jesus told Philip that when Philip asked to see the Father (GOD), Jesus let him know that he had seen the Father: Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time, and you do not know Me yet, Philip, nor recognize clearly who I am? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, Show us the Father?” Jn 14:9 (AMP) In the beginning of this world, it is written that the Word was with GOD and the Word was GOD (Jn 1:1) KJV; the Word was made flesh, and that flesh is known as the only Son of GOD full of grace and truth [absolutely free of deception] Jn 1:14 (AMP).

It appears that GOD made a Garden of Eden resolution (promise) that He would bruise the serpent’s head.  This is true because Jesus told John, the writer of the Gospel, that He is the one who was dead and is alive forevermore, Amen, and has the keys of hell and death. “I am the living one. I died, but look – I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.” Rev 1:18 (NLT)

Jesus is Lord, and all the promises of GOD are yes and amen in Him: “For all of GOD’S promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding ‘Yes!’ And through Christ, our ‘Amen’ (which means ‘Yes”) ascends to GOD for His glory.” 2 Cor 1:20 (NLT) Paul was clearing up the misunderstanding that he was not double-minded and that all Old Testament promises are accomplished in Jesus.

Therefore, when Jesus states that He will never leave us or forsake us (Children of GOD), that is a promise. “Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because GOD has said, never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Heb 13:5 (NIV)

Heaven and the Holy Spirit are also promises Jesus made, and yes, they are exclusive.  Believe, and you will receive the promise of eternal life through Jesus. “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that GOD raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in Him will never be put to shame.” Rom 10:9-11 NIV
