Our Call to Duty – What is Our Expectancy

Our Call to Duty – What is Our Expectancy? It took 4000 years (rounded up) from the time God spoke to the serpent to the time Christ was born (Gen 3:14-15). Abram was 99 years old when God changed his name to Abraham and made a covenant with him that he would be the father of many nations (Gen 17:1-5). That covenant was ratified when Abraham accepted the terms that all male descendants must be circumcised, and those born afterwards would be circumcised on the eighth day after being born.

God promised Abram that Sarai would have a child (Isaac), and yes, she had him as promised, and her name changed to Sarah. However, the promise that Abraham would be the father of many nations would not come through Isaac or any other child (seed) of Abraham. That promise came through Jesus (Gal 3:15-18). God used Abraham and David to bring Christ into the world, fulfilling the promises and covenant made to Abram (Matt 1:1-16). Not only the covenant that he made to Abram, but the promise he made to the serpent.

The prophet Nathan told King David that his house and kingdom would continue forever (2 Sam 7:14-16). David was anointed king of Israel when he was undoubtedly a teenager (1 Sam 16:1-13). He did not become king until years later, around the age of 30 (2 Sam 5:1-5). Again, Jesus was born 4000 years after God spoke to the serpent, and His ministry started when He was 30. Why reference these details? What is time to eternity? What God said to Abraham, David, and the serpent came to pass (Isa 55:11). Let us hear the Word of God accordingly.

God’s promises from the beginning have come to pass through Christ (1 Cor 1:20). What promises of God apply to us today? Timothy writes that we should be obedient, gaining the approval of God. Being His Children who correctly explain the promises and truth of the word of God (2 Tim 2:15). Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (Jn 14:6). Let us live with expectancy, knowing God is not like His creation in that He cannot lie!
