Our Call to Duty – The Foolishness of April
Our Call to Duty – “The Foolishness of April” There are several theories about the origin of April Fools, and the one that intrigues me is the Jewish theory that Noah made a mistake by sending out the dove before the water subsided. According to Ephesians 5:4, we are not to speak obscenities or perform indecent acts; have senseless, unproductive conversations; or create coarse jokes, improper humor, or speak inappropriately, which can often be destructive.
We should have righteous thinking, as Philippians 4:8 states rather well, having our minds on things that are (1) True, (2) Honest (honorable), (3) Just (right), (4) Pure, (5) Lovely, and lastly (6) of Good Report (admirable).

- True: 1 John 5:20, And we know that the Son of GOD is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true GOD, and eternal life.
- Honest: Romans 12:17, Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest (honorable) in the sight of all men.
- Just: Hebrews 10:38, Now the just (those who are right with GOD) shall live by faith: but if any man draws back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
- Pure: Matthew 5:8, Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see GOD.
- Lovely: Ezekiel 33:30-33, Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, everyone to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what the word that cometh forth from the LORD. 31 And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouths, they show much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness. 32 And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not. 33 And when this cometh to pass, (lo, it will come,) then shall they know that a Prophet hath been among them.
- Good Report (admirable): 2 Corinthians 6:3-10, Not offending in anything, that the ministry be not blamed: 4 But in all things approving ourselves as the Ministers of GOD, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, 5 In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in watching’s, in fasting’s;6 By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned, 7 By the Word of Truth, by the power of GOD, by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,8 By honor and dishonor, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true; 9 As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed; 10 As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things
Let us hear and be doers of the Word of GOD and not be as the Children of Israel during the time of the Prophet Ezekiel. But let’s get rid of everything that hinders our walk in Christ, especially sin, because that will separate us from our fellowship with GOD. By doing this, we will keep our eyes on Jesus, who initiates and perfects our faith. (Heb 12:1-2)
