Our Call to Duty – Why Remember – An old Grammy-winning song had the following lyrics: “It was the third of September that day I’ll always remember; Yes, because that was the day that my Daddy died.”  You may not have heard this song before or even want to hear it now.  The point is: what will we always remember and why?  Some may say I will always remember the day I got married or the day I got divorced.  How many of us will say; I will remember the day GOD forgave me, saved me, and filled me with His precious Holy Spirit?  

When did GOD save humanity?  A lot of hands probably went up as if you were in a Bible Study Class, and some you may have even blurted out: “For GOD so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16 NKJV) This is true and a well-known scripture, but how many remember Genesis 3:15? 

That was when GOD told the serpent He (GOD) would put hostility between Him (the devil) and the woman (Eve), between his offspring and her offspring.  He (meaning Jesus) will strike your (serpent/devil) head, but you will strike His heel. “And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.” (Genesis 3:15 KJV)

Our Call to Duty – Why Remember

GOD calls things as though they were.  Romans 4:17 states that Abraham believed GOD, who brings the dead back to life and creates new things out of nothing. As it is written: “I have made you a father of many nations.” In the presence of the GOD in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist. (Romans 4:17 NRSVUE) Our salvation was spoken into existence the moment GOD told the serpent.  It was a done deal.

Have faith in GOD!  Faith in our own faith will not produce righteous results like faith in GOD does.  Remember, the devil came to Jesus in the wilderness (Matthew 4: 1-11) three times, wanting Him to turn stones into bread, jump from the highest point of the temple, and kneel and worship him (the devil).  The devil will come to us and try to persuade us to forget that our faith is in GOD. Our enemy (the devil) will try to get us to think we can like GOD by calling things into existence.

We can, if GOD says we can. Jesus said that He could do nothing on His own. Jesus said to them. “Very truly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing on His own but only what He sees the Father doing, for whatever the Father does, the Son does likewise. (John 5:19 NRSVUE).  Are we greater than our Savior and Lord? They remembered Jesus said He would rise on the third day. “And they remembered His words” (Luke 24:8).  Will we?
